How to Calculate College & Weighted GPA

Your Grade Point Average (GPA) represents the average quality points earned across all credit hours. On a standard unweighted 4.0 GPA scale, grades are assigned fixed values: A (4.0), B (3.0), C (2.0), D (1.0), and F (0.0).

How Grade Curve Normalization Works

Professors frequently apply curves to adjust test scores when exam difficulty is unusually high. The Square Root Curve (10 × √Raw Score) is the standard academic method, offering larger point boosts to lower raw scores while fairly rewarding top performers.

Alternatively, linear scaling boosts the highest student score to 100% and scales all submissions proportionately.

International Credential & WES GPA Scales

When applying for US university admissions or study abroad programs, international grading systems require conversion. UK First-Class Honours (70%+) equates to a 4.0 US GPA. Indian 10-point CGPA systems convert via official university division boundaries.

German grades use the Modified Bavarian Formula where 1.0 (Sehr Gut) translates to a 4.0 GPA.
